Two NDIS budgets are being reduced from 1 October. Here's what it means.

  • NDIS update
  • Last checked 1 October 2026

What's changing. Under the new NDIS laws, two support categories will be reduced over the next 12 months: Social, Economic and Community Participation, and Improved Daily Living Skills.

When it affects you. Not straight away. The reductions apply when a plan is created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or renewed from 1 February 2027. Your current plan stays as it is until then.

What's not affected. Everyday supports like help with eating, dressing, personal care, medication and nursing are not affected. Some supports within the two categories are also excluded, including employment supports, high intensity supports, and intensive and complex behaviour supports. The NDIA has published the full list.

If you need 24-hour support. There's a new plan variation pathway. You can ask the NDIA to vary your plan if you receive 24-hour funded supports for needs arising from your disability, and your combined budget for Assistance with Daily Life, Home and Living, and Social, Economic and Community Participation is $215,030 or more.

What you can do. The reduction itself can't be reviewed. But if your situation has changed in a significant and ongoing way (daily living, housing, work or study, or informal support), you can still ask for a plan reassessment or variation. Talk to your support coordinator or my NDIS contact.
