What is Individualised Living Options ( ILO)

What is ILO ?

ILO stands for Individual Living Options and is a set of supports that gives you the freedom to select where and how you live based on what works best for you. Funding from the ILO is not sufficient to purchase a home.

You can explore other ways to live, such with friends, relatives, or a host, by making use of the ILO funding you have received.

  • Create a support system that will assist you in living your life according to your preferences.

With ILO, you have a wide variety of options. You may live in the home of a host instead of sharing your own home with friends or roommates, or you could reside in your own home.

ILO’s mission is to empower individuals to live their lives in the manner that is most satisfying to them. Your Individualized Learning Objective (ILO) as well as the amount of financing that you get will be customised to meet your requirements. When determining the appropriate amount of ILO money for you, we take into account your preferences, strengths, support needs, and both informal and community networks.

What makes the ILO unique is because ?

ILO is developed exclusively for you. ILO supports work in conjunction with any other sponsored supports and services that you receive, as well as any assistance that you might receive from family, friends, or the community.

ILO is not:

  • a group home, in which people with disabilities share supports and do not get to choose who they live with;
  • a “placement,” in which children and adults with disabilities are placed with a family or other people to ensure they have a roof over their heads;
  • a foster care programme, in which children and adults with disabilities are placed with a family or other people to ensure they have a roof over their heads
  • a facility, hostel, or other service that provides shared
  • accommodation a programme of one-on-one rostered care with predetermined supports and services that do not take into account the preferences or requirements of the participants money for the area in which you currently reside.

Getting Started — Exploration and Initial Design in Stage 1

It is never too early to begin contemplating where you want to live and how you want to spend your time there in the years to come. Now is a good time to talk to the NDIA about your home and living objectives and include them in your NDIS plan if you or your family has any reason to believe that you or they might want to make a change in the way that you live.

The procedure to follow in order to incorporate ILO supports into your strategy

  • Discuss your interest in investigating your house and lifestyle alternatives with your LAC or planner.
  • If you want to investigate different housing and lifestyle choices, the first step will be for us to collect some information from you. We are going to ask you to fill out the Home and Living Supports Request form, and we are going to request that a review be done on your plan.
  • The NDIA will examine your request and, using the information contained in the Home and Living Supports Request Form as well as your request for review, will determine the level of assistance necessary for you to investigate and create your ILO package. During the process of having the plan reviewed, we will keep you informed and will interact with you before the plan is finally authorised and included to your plan. Self-management, management by an Agency, or management according to a plan are all viable options for funding the ILO Exploration and Design stage.

It is important to keep in mind that all of the services included in your NDIS plan have to be deemed reasonable and required in order for the NDIS to provide funding for them.

Support Coordinator

It’s possible that your plan includes funding for a support coordinator, and that person could assist you with Stage 1. Your support coordinator needs to have the following skills and experiences: experience with person-centered design; experience in understanding how to effectively engage both primary and supplementary supports that make up the ILO; the ability to facilitate access to community resources, services, and other government service systems, as well as the ability to coordinate these activities.

You could have your support coordinator handle the entire “explore and design” part for you, or your support coordinator and you could collaborate with an ILO provider. Either option is an option.

It is recommended that the provider of Stage 2 be involved in the Explore and Design stage of your project. The percentage of your core budget that is designated for flexibility would be used to fund this activity.

An ILO Provider

When it comes to assisting you in the process of setting up your ILO supports, ILO providers play a crucial role.
When searching for a provider, you should consider whether or not they are able to:

  • comprehend your requirements
  • pay attention to what you have to say
  • make things crystal clear to you
  • assist you in determining which home and support choices might be best for you
  • be someone with whom you can collaborate • be adaptable and willing to try something new or investigate new avenues for your home and life
  • be able to locate supports that are tailored to you rather than those that are off-the-shelf.

It is not necessary for you to employ the same provider to carry out Stage 1 and Stage 2 of your ILO. This is not a necessity. You are free to complete Stage 1 without a service provider if you so desire; however, we strongly recommend that the Stage 2 service provider be involved in the development of the Service Proposal Form.
